ATN

In order to provide the cost-effective, seamless world-wide air traffic management system required for the next century, ICAO has defined a future concept known as CNS/ATM (Communications Navigation Surveillance / Air Traffic Management). It is based on a set of new technologies aiming at providing a new supporting infrastructure for ATM, essentially based on satellites complemented by a set of ground-based technologies.

Along with the satellite-based navigation (GNSS), the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) is the main cornerstone of CNS/ATM. It has been designed to allow seamless data communications all over the world between air traffic management organisations, airlines and aircraft, in order for these three parties to better co-ordinate their actions.

The ATN is a set of telecommunications standards to improve the data communications systems of the aeronautical community. This new concept provides a set of protocols and telecommunications rules for:

  • The ground-ground (i.e. fixed) data communications between organisations in charge of providing Air Traffic Services.
  • The ground-ground data communications between airline operations and Air Traffic Services Organisations (ATSOs).
  • The air-ground (i.e. mobile) data communications between ATSOs, airline operations and aircraft.

The fixed and mobile data communications services will be reliable, with a high level of integrity, availability and security.

In order to meet clients emerging needs for ATN, Sofréavia is marketing, distributing and supporting the ProATN software package that provides Air-Ground and Ground-Ground based ATN routers and end-system functions to run operational services.

Member of the Aeronautical Communications International LLC (ACI LLC) joint-venture, Sofréavia has developped and markets a portable certified ATN software:

  • The Router Reference Implementation (RRI) software: a portable software implementing the communications functions of airborne and ground ATN routers and end-systems.
  • The Application Service Elements (ASEs) software: a portable software implementing the application service elements required for Automatic Dependant Surveillance, Controller Pilot Datalink Communications (CPDLC), Context Management (CM) and digital Automated Terminal Information Service (ATIS).

In addition to engineering services related to the ATN software products integration, Sofréavia offers a wide range of aeronautical telecommunications services:

  • Consulting services.
  • Network design services
  • Network testing services
  • Cost-benefit analyses
  • Training services
